What is World View?
According to Weider and Gutierrez, it is the underlying philosophy of life, though it has many different meanings, though the worldview definition can also be defined as someone’s view of the way they look at the world. From a Christian standpoint it is a conception of the world by biblical standards.
Articulate the biblical/Christian Worldview (what is believed) for each of the following 5 questions. Give 2 relevant scripture references for each of the five questions below (do not write out the verses) to support why it is believed. (300 words)
1. The Question of Origin – God created all things, thus God is the 1st cause (pg. 65 in the Book Consider) Moses states this in Genesis 1:27, and David states that God is his creator in Ps. 139:13-16. The answer to this question biblically is God created the earth and all that is in it.
2. The Question of Identity – God created mankind above the animals, and below the angels. God created us to take care of the animals and the earth until his return, which we have not done a very good job at doing. (Ps 8:5 and Genesis 2:15) There are many other scriptures but I’ll just use the scriptures from our text book.
3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose – We exist to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God’s plan in giving the Bible to us, was to reach man (pg. 70/Consider) and to show us the love he has for us by giving his son on the cross for our sins. (Matthew 22:35-40 and Matthew 6:25.33)
4. The Question of Morality – Christianity believes in the fall of Adam, he knew he acted against God’s command in not eating the fruit. He clearly disobeyed God, and sin came into the world. He (Adam) knew between wrong and right because of this sin. Though we are born a sinner, we can come to know Christ as our personal Savior, we cannot be saved without Christ. The Bible can give us all the answers that we need in how to live our lives holy and blameless before the Lord. (Mark 7:20-23, Romans 13:8-10, 1Corthinanins 6:9-11)
5. The Question of Destiny – There is life after death, one does not just die and it’s over, there are consequences to our actions here on earth which affect us in eternity. All throughout the Bible it tells us to live godly lives pleasing to the Lord. (2 Timothy 3:16, Romans 6:23, the entire chapter of John 15 talks about consequences and what happens after death)
How might/should a biblical worldview influence the way you [Refer specifically to how biblical worldview beliefs influence your answer] choose only two of these: (100 words)
.…think about, treat, and speak to others on a daily basis?
From a biblical worldview, how we treat and speak to people on a daily basis is HUGE, for Christ said they shall know us by the love we have for another. Our actions, our talk, everything we do MUST show that we are Christians, we are to be like Christ. One cannot profess to be a Christian and then act like the world acts. It is very imperative that Christians see this today, we are not to part of this world, but we are not to be judgmental either. We are to help the sick, the poor, the needy, the widow, etc., in doing so, we are actually being Christ like.
…treat/interact with the environment and non-human creation?
God gave us the world to take care of, environmental wise, and also taking care of the animals. We are God’s stewards and he has given us the earth to live on throughout our journeys here. He expects us to take care of it, as of today we do a very poor job of it. As Christians we should be the first in line in helping the voiceless, and the environment.
